the memo

She walked the cold streets with two dolllars in a pocket.  With a bit of hope, she walked into a chuch, sat there soaking up wisdom, was encourged to hang in there.  Soon after, she recieved a part time job at a magazine which become that thing that tranformed her life.

She is Susan L. Taylor.

Many of us, have read her collumn at Essence, taking in her motherly wisdom, becoming a litle bitter.

More than the person who was the editor in cheif of Essence Magazine. She was bold enough to take the magazine to places that the founders had never envisioned.

Despite all the circumstances, a broken marriage and being marriage, she came up with solutions for herself. Taking a small opportunity, she is speaker, an author, and a college graduate.  She even has a mentoring program for young people.  The fact she opens up about her own life in order to make others better is her best accomplishment.  The fact she gave a young lady hope as she reading her book, not in the best neighborhood, knowing this was a circumstance but not reality.

I love this lion. She knows how to roar in the jungle.

all hail to the queen.

have a productive week

breifcase

Just because you build it does mean they will come. So you have to hit the streets. You do with an advertising mix that works for your business.

step one
start with less expensive but things that will stand out. If it works, then you upgrade that method.  So if it is the flyer, get the message on there on colored paper, but use a better grade later.

step two
For a new business, make sure you get some foot power in your area. Pass out things that wil work your business.

step three
have an event to promote. It can be something really simple. Put an ad in the paper and pass out the flyers up until the time of the event especially if you are a new business.

make it happen. have faith.

the memo

Dear Successful

I wanted to someone different this week. So in honor of Thanksgiving, I wanted to talk about Hosea Williams.

He is founder of Hosea Feed the Hungry, an oraganization which provides meals and resourcces for the poor.

I like the story because he always a lion. He has served in the miltary, finshed high school at 23, went to college, became scientist. A person who could very lived a comfortabe life but decided to make it very uncomfortable by providing resources for others.

When others needed him,he provided them his voice. He marched for workers, assisted Dr. King, and even went to the Republican side which had to be a brave act for him. I love his story because he was a man who stood on his own princpals. The work he did, it is forver though his daughter. It is not something pretty look at, something in a book, but it is a moving act of love he has created, a legacy that I hope will be there forever.

In business world, you have to go on your journey. Make the decesions that is best for you.
These of lessons you can learn from Hosea Williams.  A lion.

have a great productive week

the memo

Dear Successful

Rachel Ray.

In high school, she was very creative, doing many things at once. When others said, I want to become a doctor or a lawyer, Rachel had the courage to go on a discovery.

With a job from Macy's to other odd jobs, Rachel Ray gave happiness with a local TV show.  This show led her to a cookbook which transformed into something great at Food Network.

As a home cook, I sat at home and said, this is someone special. She has a light and a positive energy in which she shares with others.  In time, her fan base took her to Oprah.  Now, books, magazine, day time TV show. Rachel Ray is a lion who takes simple things and makes them grand.

I love her spirit.  Solutions, no excuses. She takes a box and makes it decor.  A few items in a pantry
and turns it into a party.  A cookbook, a long ride with her mom, and transformed it into a business.

Be inspired by this lion.

Have a great and productive week.

The Memo

Dear Successful

Born to a midwife and a military man, Silvia Woods came in this world with very little during the late 1920s. When her father died at an early age, her mother took what they had and stretched it by saving
and working very hard.

She grew around a village that bartered, saved, and worked.

Those are the lessons she packed up with her when she moved to New York.  She gained a skill at beauty skill which helped her pay for her first home.

From past to present, from the south to the north, she traveled to her path to success.  A simple job as a waitress became an opportunity. Together with her husband, they fed the souls of many. With help of her family, it became a cookbook, soul food line, and other business ventures.

I love this lion. She inspired me to work hard and roar. I love her story. Solutions with out excuses.

Have a great and productive week.
